![]() ![]() With the expertly-choreographed swordfights and witty banter we’ve come to expect from this series, On Stranger Tides proves itself worthy of the Pirates name. The third installment of the 'Pirates' series revisits all of the characters from the previous films, with assorted missions and goals: The British commander is still bent on controlling the seas and annihilating the pirate population, Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) is still dead-ish, Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) is desperate to save his father (Stellan Skarsgard) from Davy Jones (Bill. Jack Sparrow is, as always, the centre of attention, giving the audience an antihero protagonist they love to cheer for. I still enjoyed this film quite a lot - Syrena and Philip made for a good couple, the plot was relatively fast-paced, and the special effects were as expected of Disney (read: really, really good). In terms of fitting into the universe, On Stranger Tides goes a little off-course - Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann don’t feature in this piece of the franchise, focusing instead on Jack Sparrow and Barbossa as the only returning characters. ![]() When she forces him aboard the Queen Anne’s Revenge - the ship of the formidable pirate Blackbeard - Jack finds himself on an unexpected adventure in which he doesn’t know who to fear more: Blackbeard, or Angelica.
